Test Drive: LoveSeen

Jenna is remarkably open when sharing that she was born with a rare genetic disorder that left her with seven eyelashes. That’s right, seven. Luckily, she’s had a little help along the way, thanks to makeup artist Troi Ollivierre, her longtime friend and partner-in-crime at J.Crew. The pair teamed up to launch LoveSeen, a line of faux lashes meant for everyday wear and designed with every eye shape and skin tone in mind. They spent 18 months developing the line of easy, wearable lashes that aren’t too fussy, too damaging or too expensive, like lash extensions can be.

The process was painstaking at times, but Jenna and Troi ended up with 21 styles that range from soft and delicate to full and feathery, neatly packaged in biodegradable trays made from sugarcane pulp. If you’re not quite sure what your lash personality is, well, there’s a quiz for that. In the meantime, we’ll show you what a few familiar faces from Stylish decided to give a whirl. Here, Troi and his right-hand, Iris Kim, give us the backstory on how the associates’ looks came together.

Sarah-Kate

AS SEEN IN: Iris in light brown

HOW TO GET HER LOOK: We wanted to go natural for Sarah-Kate because she already has great skin and lashes, so we used the Iris for a bit of volume. Sarah-Kate’s lashes are blonde, so we added a swipe of Diorshow mascara in brown to blend and dabbed a little RMS Living luminizer on the inside corner of her eyes to open them up. We used George, an orangey-red shade from Troi’s lipstick line, which complements her fair skin. Messy beach hair is courtesy of OUAI wave spray.

Mike

AS SEEN IN: Inez in black

HOW TO GET HIS LOOK: Mike wanted to embrace his feminine side, so we went for it with sparkle and a fuller lash. We evened out his skin tone but kept the focus on the eye. For that silvery effect, we started with NYX’s glitter primer, which helps the glitter stick to his eyelids, and applied Makeup Forever’s Star Lit glitter in holographic silver over the eyelid. His hair is great, too, so we used a bit of Kiehl’s Silk Groom serum to break it up.

Justin

AS SEEN IN: Cate in black

HOW TO GET HIS LOOK: We started by evening out his skin, keeping the emphasis on his eyes. He wanted a rock ’n’ roll edge without being too obvious, so we added a bit of MAC Kohl eye liner under his eyes and touched up his brows with Glossier Boy Brow to keep them in place.

Eman

AS SEEN IN: Noor (also her sister’s name!) in black

HOW TO GET HER LOOK: Eman L-O-V-E-S makeup, so this was fun. Because she was wearing a lot of black, including her hijab, we wanted to lighten things up while making sure she still looked and felt like herself. She can pull off a strong eye, so we used a MAC Eye Kohl eye pencil and Dolly Wink liquid eye liner. We filled in her brows and elongated the line of her eye. (“I like to call it a crocodile eye,” Troi says.) Her skin is gorgeous, so we left it as is, and enhanced the natural color of her lip with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk.

Alon

AS SEEN IN: Romy in black

HOW TO GET HER LOOK: Alon is always doing something spectacular with her makeup. She loves whimsy, sparkles and graphic lines, so we stayed true to that.

We gave her skin a glow with a NARS tinted moisturizer and dabbed Stila blush in Petunia on the apples of her cheeks. For her eyeliner, we used Makeup Forever’s artist color pencil in versatile violet and created a V-shape that goes from the inner corner of her eye to the center with Mehron metallic powder in silver. We played up her lips with a lip mask from Laneige, which is glossy and feels incredible.
